COOMERA RIVER PARK

Public BBQ

This riverside park beside Oxenford Weir offers an unexpected natural escape just minutes from suburbia. The free barbecue facilities anchor a spot where wildlife photographers stake out year-round ospreys, while families cast lines hoping to hook bream from the grassy banks. The water draws egrets, herons, and pelicans, though bull sharks reportedly breed here seasonally, swimming isn't advisable. A basic playground keeps younger visitors occupied between fish sightings, while the generally quiet atmosphere suits both patient anglers and picnickers seeking solitude. The grass receives minimal maintenance, lending an untamed character. Stingrays patrol the shallows, and reportedly massive fish leap constantly just beyond casting distance. The lack of toilet facilities remains the primary complaint, though the peaceful setting and genuine fishing opportunities compensate for most visitors.
